The PADI entry
level scuba diving course. Spread over four
days of training, the Open Water Diver Course
teaches student divers the foundation knowledge
and skills required to dive safely with
a buddy independent of supervision to a
maximum depth of 18 metres. The course builds
upon the concept of performance-based learning.
This means student divers progress through
the course by demonstrating that they meet
measurable learning objectives. The courses
instructional design sequences these objectives
from simple to complex, so students build
upon previous learning as they progress.
The course is modular which means that it
can be conducted if you wish, in stages.
Typically the course is divided into 2 days
of classroom and pool work which is known
as a referral
and then the open water section known
as the completion.

Because PADI is a truly international training
agency it is possible to take the referral
course in the UK and travel to a PADI centre
in the Red Sea for example, and complete
your Open Water Course there. All the accademic
coursework will have been done in the UK,
so this allows you to complete the course
and dive at your holiday destination without
wasting valuable holiday time studying.
If you wish, we can combine your Open Water
Course with one of the regular dive holidays
arranged by ourselves and led by our experienced
instructors. Click
